Dana Reeve has died of lung cancer, age 44. Her late husband was Christopher Reeve, who had become paralyzed after falling off a horse. She died on Monday at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Medical Center. She had a son Will and two stepchildren, Matthew and Alexandra.
Through the Christopher Reeve Foundation, Dana fought hard for better treatment and breakthroughs for paralysis.
Kathy Lewis, CEO of the Christopher Reeve Foundation, said "On behalf of the entire board of directors and staff of the Christopher Reeve Foundation, we are extremely saddened by the death of Dana Reeve, whose grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances was a source of comfort and inspiration to all of us."
In August of last year Dana Reeve announced she had lung cancer.
