In response to new draft NICE guidance published today, recommending limited use of dronedarone for atrial fibrillation (AF), June Davison, Senior Cardiac Nurse at the British Heart Foundation (BHF) said:
"The BHF welcomes the new draft guidance published today by NICE. This demonstrates that the committee took on board feedback from the consultation earlier this year, including from organisations such as ours.
"We support the committee's conclusion that dronedarone should not be recommended as a first-line anti-arrhythmic drug on the basis of current evidence, but that dronedarone should be available for people who find their existing drug ineffective or cannot tolerate the drug they are prescribed. This would ensure that people living with the condition have access to a broader range of treatments."
